It Was Me All Along
We spend so much time pouring into others... hoping, waiting, wondering when it will come back around. But what if the return isn’t coming from someone else? What if it starts with you?
Hello Sunshine!
“You are worth taking care of…”
I’ve heard these words before—felt them, reflected on them, and always seemed to direct them outward, thinking of the people in my life. I searched externally, offering care, compassion, and consideration… without realizing those words were gently calling me inward all along.
I am worth taking care of myself.
Perhaps the universe has a grand sense of humor—placing us in just the right place, at just the right time, with just the right words. Right when we find ourselves fumbling through confusion or quietly waiting for something to shift… bam! There it is—a message, seemingly meant for someone else, landing directly in our lap, asking to be received.
Many of us carry strong caretaker qualities, tending to the needs of everyone around us while quietly convincing ourselves that, eventually, the care we give will be returned. That someone will come along and take care of us in the same way. In the process, we unknowingly shrink ourselves, dim our own light, and hold back from living fully in alignment with who we truly are.
Without realizing it, we give ourselves crumbs while carrying unnecessary emotional and energetic weight, waiting for someone else to come along and lighten the load—when in truth, we have the ability to set it down ourselves. We search for relationships to fill us with love, support, and care, when what we may really need is to build that relationship within. A steady, lifelong connection with the one person we are guaranteed to live with every day—ourselves.
Instead of passing the weight of our inner world onto others, we can begin to take ownership of our own lives. We can nurture and nourish the parts of ourselves that need attention, recognizing that our compassionate and sensitive nature also deserves care. In doing so, we begin the work from within.
Through that internal connection, we start to honor our intentions and rise into our own personal power, allowing our natural light to shine more freely. Like a lighthouse, grounded and steady, we learn to guide ourselves first—and in turn, our light may help guide others toward their own sense of safety, strength, and peace.
No matter what is happening around us—the noise, the chaos, the distractions of everyday life—we each hold the responsibility of turning inward. Of shifting our focus away from everything outside of us and reconnecting with what’s happening within. Sometimes, even finding humor in our own moments of realization becomes part of the message we’ve been searching for all along.
When we begin to recognize that the messages we once projected outward were meant for us, we are given the opportunity to return to ourselves and offer the care we’ve always deserved.
As we reconnect with our own light, we begin to see more clearly how to love, respect, trust, and accept ourselves. Confidence grows as we learn to nurture and support who we are. And suddenly, we don’t feel so incomplete. We don’t feel so far away from ourselves.
We feel whole.
We feel grounded.
Fully, beautifully human again.
It is no longer necessary to wait for someone else to provide us with peace, guide us forward, or quiet the chaos. We are capable. We are worthy. And it has been within us all along.
It starts with you.
Have an emotionally aware, intentionally in-tune, and self-loving day! I love you!
Journal Prompt:
When was the last time you truly showed up for yourself—and what would it look like to begin caring for yourself the way you so naturally care for others?
